Folksonomies and Tagging

Folksonomies and Tagging are a key component of the Web 2.0 model that many people are embracing. There are several different applications available, such as; del.icio.us , and Flickr. Elyssa Kroski's article, The Hive Mind: Folksonomies and User-Based Tagging is comprehensive look at tagging that is well thought out and an excellent introduction to the concept of tagging. Another useful article on Folksonomies and Tagging is Mariekke Guy's and Emma Tonkin's article, published in the January 2006 issue of D-Lib magazine, titled Folksonomies: Tidying up Tags. Their article focuses on studying what makes a folksonomy work, sloppy tags, and the tidying up approach for tags. More libraries need to explore tagging and the useful applications for its patrons as it is now an established method for organizing and delivering information.
